Advanced Diagnosis, Personalized Treatment, and a Lifetime of Eye Health: Myopia Management at Pasco Vision Clinic

FC – Myopia Management at Pasco Vision Clinic

At Pasco Vision Clinic, our mission is to assist patients of all ages in the diagnosis and treatment of myopia, also known as nearsightedness. Since 1969, our vision clinic has been providing excellent, community-focused care, supported by the finest diagnostic instrumentation available, caring service, and a firm commitment to lifelong eye health.

What is Myopia?

Myopia is a refractive condition in which the eye focuses images in front of the retina, rather than directly on it. This causes distant objects—such as road signs, classroom boards, or TV screens—to appear blurry, while close-up tasks like reading and computer work remain clear.

Myopia usually begins in childhood and persists into the teenage years, but can also start or worsen in adulthood. Myopia needs to be discovered early because latent myopia can subsequently progress into worse vision problems later in life, including a high glaucoma risk, retinal detachment, and macular degeneration.

Myopia signs and symptoms

Our experienced optometrists at Pasco Vision Clinic thoroughly examine eyes for myopia. Symptoms we watch out for include:

  • Distance vision blur
  • Squinting to see signs or screens
  • Headaches
  • Eye strain, particularly after outdoor activities
  • Reading the board in school (for children) is difficult
  • Too much reading or screen time too close

Complete Myopia Diagnosis

Pasco Vision Clinic initiates all myopia treatment programs with a complete eye exam. We use a combination of testing and advanced technologies to evaluate the complete eye condition and establish the degree of refractive error:

  • Vision tests to find out what differs at more than one distance
  • Refraction testing and retinoscopy to quantify precise lens power
  • Corneal measurement to evaluate eye shape and structure
  • Axial length measurements to monitor progressive myopia
  • Retinal photography and OCT scans to observe eye health

Meet The Experienced Team

Our clinic is centered around three dedicated optometrists:

  • Dr. Adam D. Good, OD
Dr. Good earned his Doctor of Optometry from Pacific University. With a strong attention to ocular disease and pediatric care, he has been serving Pasco families since 2007.
  • Dr. J.C. Sulivan, OD
A graduate of the Southern California College of Optometry, Dr. Sullivan specializes in diabetic eye disease and retinal imaging, and was earlier serving at Spochen VA Medical Center.

Myopia Control and Management Strategies

Pasco Vision Clinic offers various options for reducing dependence on traditional corrective eyeglasses. Based on your age, active lifestyle, and severity of your myopia, we may suggest:

  1. Prescription Contact Lenses and Eyeglasses
Recommended by our physicians are specialized-fitted contact lenses and eyeglasses for the correction of nearsightedness and the convenience of everyday living. We offer:

    • Single-vision glasses provide open-distance vision
    • High-index glasses for higher prescriptions with lighter weight
    • Daily wear and long-term wear contact lenses for individuals who desire correction through lenses
  2. Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)
Ortho-K is an overnight wear of gas-permeable lenses fitted on an individual basis to temporarily bend the cornea. The patients have normal vision during the day without the need for glasses or contacts. It is especially useful for:

    • Children and young adults who require control of myopia development
    • Sports participants or individuals with active occupations
    • Patients who dislike surgery and LASIK
  3. MiSight and Other Soft Myopia Control Lenses
These daily soft specialty contact lenses are FDA-approved for the control and treatment of myopia progression in children. They are designed for everyday wear and are very comfortable, offering high effectiveness when used daily.
  4. Atropine Eye Drops
Low-dose atropine eye drops are a novel therapy to retard myopia in kids. They are applied at night, and the treatment is safety-valued and evidence-supported, typically in conjunction with other treatments such as glasses or contact lenses.

Myopia in Children: Why Early Identification is Important

It is crucial to identify and correct myopia in children at a young age. As children grow, their eyes also grow, which can worsen nearsightedness quickly if left unmonitored. At Pasco Vision Clinic, we:

  • Monitor vision development with every visit
  • Monitor changes in axial length and refraction
  • Work with families to implement a daily routine of lens wear or drops
  • Educate parents about environmental influences, i.e., reducing screen time and playtime

Insurance, Payment, and Accessibility

We are an in-network provider for all the major insurance companies and provide convenient payment arrangements, including:

  • Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
  • Care Credit financing
  • Major debit/credit cards
