Why do All-Inclusive Eye Exams Matter?

Many people believe that if they can see clearly, they don't need an eye exam. But an eye exam is not just a matter of looking at how well you can see—issues with the general health of your eyes and signs of illness that will disable your vision for the course of your life. At Pasco Vision Clinic, our exams help us identify everything from prescription updates to serious eye conditions and systemic diseases that may show early signs in the eyes.

Early treatment and detection are a lifesaver. Eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy often develop silently. Our test is made to detect them early enough so that you will have the best chance to preserve your vision for life.

What to Expect During Your Eye Exam?

A routine complete eye exam at Pasco Vision Clinic is far more than a minimal vision screening. Our skilled optometrists—Dr. Adam Good, Dr. J.C. Sullivan, and Dr. Bill Sullivan—perform an exhaustive examination of your vision and eye health with state-of-the-art diagnostic technology and a human touch.

Here's what your appointment can entail:

  • Visual Acuity Test: This test assesses the sharpness of your vision at various distances using typical eye charts, such as the Snellen chart. It will tell us whether you have 20/20 vision or whether you need corrective glasses.
  • Refraction Test: If you're farsighted or nearsighted, we perform a refraction test to figure out precisely what prescription glasses or contacts you'll need. That is a test of different lens options and how to enable you to have as much vision as possible.
  • Eye Muscle Function Tests: We observe how your eyes communicate with each other and assess eye movement to identify problems such as strabismus or disruptions of binocular vision.
  • Pupil Response Test: We assess your pupils' responses to light and objects at various distances to evaluate neurological function.
  • Slit-Lamp Test: We then apply high power to examine the structures on the front of your eye and assess for evidence of cataracts, corneal disease, or eye infection.
  • Retinal Test: We examine the back of your eye—specifically the retina, optic nerve, and vessels—using specialized instruments to search for evidence of conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, or diabetic retinopathy.
  • Intraocular Pressure Test (Tonometry): A test that will identify high eye pressure, a significant risk factor for glaucoma.

Meet The Experienced Team

Our clinic is centered around three dedicated optometrists:

  • Dr. J.C. Sullivan, OD
A graduate of the Southern California College of Optometry, Dr. Sullivan specializes in diabetic eye disease and retinal imaging, and was earlier serving at Spochen VA Medical Center.
  • Dr. Bill Sullivan, OD
Dr. Bill Sullivan received a doctorate from Prashant University and trained at Stuttgart Eye Clinic in Germany. He's passionate about bringing quality eye care to his hometown.

Eye Exam for Everyone

Pasco Vision Clinic offers comprehensive eye testing for individuals of all ages, from infants to older adults. There will be a change in sight at some point in life, and our optometrists are well-trained to identify those that are not normal for any particular age group.

Pediatric Eye Exams: Childhood eye development is critical. Kids can't always tell you or show you whether their vision is right or not. We provide comprehensive exams that assess vision, eye alignment, and eye health, preparing your child to attend school and thrive.

Adult Eye Exam: Adults should return periodically to update their prescriptions and detect early signs of eye disease. Diabetes and hypertension are two conditions with ophthalmic manifestations—our thorough exams can detect these changes in their earliest stage.

Senior Eye Check-up: As we age, we are more likely to develop cataracts, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Our trained professionals undertake rigorous checks to identify such problems at an early stage and treat them in the desired manner.
